I don't even remember when they became my earrings.
There wasn't a moment. No decision that this pair would be the pair. They simply stayed on the bedside table for a while, then found their way back onto my ears each morning until reaching for them became as automatic as putting the kettle on.
Some mornings I fasten them before I've even looked in the mirror. I make coffee. I open the curtains. I check I've got my keys. I lock the front door. By then they're already part of the day, so familiar that I stop noticing them altogether.
Now when I look in the mirror, I recognise them as me. Worn every day. Marked gently by time. Folded into the rhythm of ordinary life.

Jewellery care is vital to ensure your piece lasts a lifetime. Most metal develops a natural surface patina over time, which will develop differently dependent on use and environment. Jewellery should be stored in a clean, dry environment while not being worn, preferably in the jewellery box it was presented in and away from other objects that may cause scratching.
The tarnishing process can be mediated by completely removing jewellery when applying creams, lotions, perfumes and keeping pieces away from moisture. Minimising contact between your metals and household chemicals will keep the piece looking fresher for longer. A gentle polishing cloth is recommended to buff your pieces from time to time.
