The organic texture is created by wrapping a small piece of gold in wrinkled tissue paper and passing it through metal rollers, pressing the delicate surface of the tissue into the metal. I was interested in how certain textures can hold emotional charge despite their ordinariness, carrying traces of pressure, handling, and time.
While making this piece, the use of yellow gold became connected to a particular kind of light in the room; warm, suspended, slightly oppressive. The feeling of heat resting on surfaces, where everything appears momentarily sharpened and held in place. Noon light through the window became an evocative moment when this piece was created.
The pendant is formed in gold and finished with a substantial matte bail, contrasting the fragility of the surface impression. Small in scale and light in weight, the piece is designed to feel intimate and closely held against the body.

Jewellery care is vital to ensure your piece lasts a lifetime. Most metal develops a natural surface patina over time, which will develop differently dependent on use and environment. Jewellery should be stored in a clean, dry environment while not being worn, preferably in the jewellery box it was presented in and away from other objects that may cause scratching.
The tarnishing process can be mediated by completely removing jewellery when applying creams, lotions, perfumes and keeping pieces away from moisture. Minimising contact between your metals and household chemicals will keep the piece looking fresher for longer. A gentle polishing cloth is recommended to buff your pieces from time to time.
